Defensive end Chris Clemons tore his ACL and meniscus against the Washington Redskins in their 24-14 win on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season.

“It’s a big loss for us in a lot of ways,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “Chris has been a great football player and just a symbol of consistency in the years that we’ve had him, but he’s been a great leader for us too and a tough dude and a guy we’ve become very comfortable playing with and we’ll miss the heck out of him.”

This season, Clemons has 11 1/2 sacks this season, and is one of the top pass rushing threats for the Seahawks. Rookie Bruce Irvin will start in his place after recording a rookie record eight sacks this season.

Seattle plays on the road against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
