(IRVING, Texas) — The Dallas Cowboys have named Monte Kiffin their new defensive coordinator just three days after firing Rob Ryan, according to sources.
Ryan was fired after just two seasons with the team.
The 72-year-old Kiffin was the defensive coordinator at USC, where his son Lane is the head coach. He resigned from the position last month.
Kiffin spent 26 years as an NFL assistant coach, including 13 years as the defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won a Super Bowl in 2002.
He will have the task of retooling a Cowboys defense that finished 19th in the NFL, allowing a franchise-record high 5,687 yards and forcing only 16 turnovers.
