Tribes Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Massacre
Published at(PRESTON, ID) — Members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes and other regional community leaders commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Bear River Massacre Tuesday. The tragedy occurred on a cold morning along the Bear River just a few miles north of Preston. An estimated 500 men, women, and children were killed in the attack, led by about 200 U.S. Army militiamen from California. The Northwest Band of the Shoshone Nation held a ceremony at the site on Tuesday morning.
