US Markets See Small Advances

The Dow closed up 80 points at 13,471.22, with Bank of America stocks leading the index. The bank’s shares closed at $11.35, a 35-cent increase. The Nasdaq added 16 points and closed at 3,121.76, a three-month high. The S&P gained 11 points at 1,472.12.
 
The Labor Department said weekly applications for unemployment benefits rose last week by 4,000 to 371,000, the most in five weeks. The previous week’s total was revised lower.
 
If you’re looking for a job, it should be fairly easy to find one. The Labor Department talked to employers nationwide and found that most say they plan to keep hiring at modest levels for the next few months.
