(4) Duke Survives Boston College
Published at(BOSTON) — In a week where many top 5 teams fell to unranked competion, Duke narrowly avoided becoming one of the others.
Mason Plumlee hit a game-winning free throw with 26 seconds left to give the fourth-ranked Blue Devils a 62-61 lead over Boston College. They would win by that score.
Duke (21-2) head coach Mike Krzyzewski knew just how close his team was to dropping a game on the road. “These are games anybody can lose, and throughout the country everybody is losing them. Our guys found a way to win against a team that was also deserving to win, so that’s a real good thing.”
Plumlee had 19 points and 10 rebounds, but went 1-of-2 from the line late to give Boston College a chance to win. However, Olivier Hanlan’s shot with time winding down was off the mark to seal the win for Duke.
“He takes another freshman off the dribble, he gets a pretty good look,” BC coach Steve Donahue said of Hanlan. “He normally makes those shots.”
