Johnson scored a career-high 39 points to lead Kansas past Iowa State, 108-96 on Monday night.

Johnson recorded eight points alone in the last 29 seconds of regulation, and had 12 in the overtime period.

“He was unbelievable. He was the best player in the country [Monday night],” Jayhawks coach Bill Self said. “That will go down as one of the better games that any guard has ever played at Kansas.”

Down late in regulation, Johnson hit two threes and then buried two free throws to tie the game at 90 with 4.9 seconds left. Then in overtime, he took over. Johnson pointed to a conversation he had with Self that got him going.

Iowa State (19-9) made 17 three-pointers in their sixth Big 12 loss.
