(SALT LAKE CITY) — A freshman helped a struggling Arizona team to win on the road.
Mark Lyons had 18 points to help the Arizona Wildcats to a 68-64 win over Utah on Sunday night.
Freshman Brandon Ashley came off the bench in favor of senior Kevin Parrom, and responded with 10 points. “I don’t think we played any different (down the stretch),” Ashley said. “I just think we picked up our intensity. We saw that we needed to stop messing around and fight.”
Arizona (21-4) had lost two straight and blew a 13-point in the second half, but shot 47 percent to get their ninth conference win.
Lyons scored on a three-point play to help the Wildcats pull away after Utah had tied the game. “That’s who he is. That’s one of the reasons we as a team really love him. When it’s close and it’s tight, he has the ability and the confidence to make big plays,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said.
