Addressing the House Democratic Issues Conference, which works with Democratic lawmakers to reach a consensus, Biden said the group must support the administration’s sweeping plan to curb violence despite pressures by the gun lobby not to endorse proposals that include reinstating an assault weapons ban and limiting high-capacity magazines.

Biden, who lost his first wife and a child in an automobile accident 40 years ago, told the caucus that he wondered how parents who lost children at Sandy Hook Elementary School have shown so much courage in the face of soul-crushing grief.

The vice president said, “I can’t imagine how they’re doing it quite frankly but I can imagine how we will be judged as individuals and judged as a Congress and judged as a nation if we do nothing.  That I can imagine.  It’s simply unacceptable.”

In an effort to rally support for the White House plan, Biden implored his fellow Democrats, “Folks, enough is enough is enough!  Many of you in this room have been standing up your entire careers.  Many of you have scars on your back like I do from trying to act, and deal with the senselessness of gun violence in America.”
