The Blackhawks defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3 in a shootout on Tuesday and recorded a point for the 16th straight game to open a season, tying an NHL record.

“It’s a remarkable start,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “We’re very happy and pleased. Guys should be proud of the achievement and where they’re at, especially in a 48-game season. It’s put us in a real good spot.”

Only the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks had a point streak as long to start a season.

Andrew Shaw scored the final goal for Chicago (13-0-3, 29pts) in the shootout, and Ray Emery saved a shot from Ryan Kesler to win the game.

However, there was concern for the Blackhawk’s Marian Hossa who came out of the game after taking a blow to the back of the head from Vancouver’s Jannik Hensen.

The Canucks (8-3-4, 20pts) logged 32 shots on goal in the loss.
