The four-time All-Star is sitting out this season to spend more time with his family.

The deal helps out both teams financially, according to ESPN, with the Islanders adding payroll to meet the salary cap floor and the Bruins clearing salary cap space.

“We have acquired an asset for our organization,” Islanders general manager Garth Snow said in a statement. “This acquisition allows us flexibility with our roster moving forward.”

Thomas was instrumental in helping the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup championship in 2011. For his efforts, he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy, which goes to the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
