Celtics Outlast Nuggets In Triple-OT
Published at(BOSTON) — One of the oldest players on the floor made the most plays in a matchup between two of the NBA’s hottest teams.
Paul Pierce had a triple-double of 27 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists to lead the Boston Celtics past the Denver Nuggets, 118-114 in triple-overtime on Sunday.
Pierce hit a three-pointer in the second overtime to tie the game at 107 that sent it to a third extra session.
“I mean that’s what great players do. I would love to tell you I had something to do with it,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “I was sitting just like the fans saying, ‘Please, Lord, Paul make a shot.'”
The Celtics (27-23) have now won seven straight games since losing point guard Rajon Rondo to a season-ending ACL injury.
The Nuggets (33-19) had their nine game winning streak end with the loss. “We’re not into moral victories, but it was one of those games,” Nuggets guard Andre Miller said. “It was a fun game, and I’m sure everybody was tired.”
