Daytona 500 Champion Jimmie Johnson Preparing For Phoenix 500
Published at(AVONDALE, Ariz.) — The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is at the Phoenix International Raceway this Sunday for the running of the Subway Fresh Fit 500.
Jimmie Johnson, fresh off his victory at the Daytona 500 last Sunday, comes into the 312-mile race leading in the Cup standings, five points ahead of second-place Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Danica Patrick, who made history last weekend by becoming the first female drive to lead laps at Daytona, is seventh, 10 points behind Johnson.
Denny Hamlin took home the checkered flag in last year’s event at Phoenix, leading the final 59 laps. Kevin Harvick challenged Hamlin late, but ran out of gas to finish in second.
The green flag is set to drop at 3:14 p.m. Eastern time.
