Education Committee Approves Cursive Bill
Published at(BOISE, ID) — A measure requiring Idaho’s public schools to teach cursive writing is now up for a House vote. Rep. Linden Bateman of Idaho Falls made an impassioned case for retaining cursive before a House education committee Wednesday. The former history teacher also has the support of Boise State communications professor Peter Wollheim, who noted that cursive handwriting improves students’ motor and composition skills. Some Democrats disagreed with the findings, arguing that schools should add more art and music classes before mandating cursive.
