(UNIONDALE, NY) — Claude Giroux and Danny Briere scored two goals apiece to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 7-0 thrashing of the New York Islanders on Monday afternoon.
Ilya Bryzgalov was brilliant in goal for the Flyers (7-9-1, 15 pts), making 19 saves for his first shutout of the season to help his struggling squad.
Matt Read had a goal and two assists while Giroux tacked on an assist to his two scores.
“We should be winning more battles than this,” Giroux said. “It’s just frustrating to see. I know I have to be better, but a team is 20 guys and you need everybody to show up.”
The second period is where Philadelphia broke the game open, scoring three goals on just six shots.
The Islanders (6-8-1, 13 pts) were coming off impressive victories over the Rangers and Devils but could not muster anything offensively against the Flyers.
