Three months after coming over in a trade from the Marlins, Reyes said that Loria was encouraging Reyes to buy a house in Miami just days before the deal was made.

“I was shocked, because Jeffrey Loria, he always told me he’s never going to trade me,” Reyes said on his first day as a Blue Jay. “He always called my agent and said, ‘Tell Jose to get a good place here to live,’ and stuff like that.”

Reyes signed a six-year deal with the Marlins worth $106 million but was dealt to the Blue Jays after just one season in South Florida.

Reyes said he has not spoken to Loria or any other member of the Marlins organzation since the trade.  “After the trade, I don’t talk to those guys,” he said. “After the trade, everything’s done. So I don’t need to talk to them because they traded me. So why do I need to talk to them?”

Despite everything that happened, Reyes is happy to be in Toronto and is looking forward to the next chapter of his career North of the Border.
