Lakers Hang On Against Pistons
Published at(DETROIT) — Still no Dwight Howard for the Los Angeles Lakers, but they still picked up a road win.
Pau Gasol scored 23 points and the Lakers held on against the Detroit Pistons, 98-97 on Sunday.
Steve Nash had missed two free throws with less than three seconds left, and left the Pistons with a chance to win at the buzzer. They inbounded the ball from midcourt and lobbed it to the basket, but Andre Drummond could not convert against Gasol.
“Every game is like a playoff game for us right now,” Los Angeles coach Mike D’Antoni said. “And some crazy things happen in playoff games.”
The Lakers (22-26) were playing again without Howard who remains out with a shoulder injury, but got 10 rebounds from Gasol and 10 assists from Nash.
Detroit (18-30) got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Greg Monroe in a losing effort.
