Now, the Girls creator and star is speaking up to deny a report claiming she didn’t vote in the election.

The political website Room Eight, citing a “New York City’s voter file,” made the allegation on Wednesday.

Dunham — who appeared in a pro-Obama video last year that compared voting in an election for the first time to one losing his or her virginity — addressed the report Thursday on Twitter, writing, “Hey kids, some people on the Internet are saying I didn’t vote. Some of them are still mad I used a sexy metaphor re: voting.”

The 26-year-old actress continues, “I did vote. I tried to get an absentee ballot but, because our nation’s voting system is a steampunk cornmaze, it didn’t arrive. So not to be a martyr about it but I flew to New York to vote. I wasn’t sure if my change of address had officially been registered so I went to my old polling place with my dad, where they let me vote by affidavit ([which] was totally allowed.)”

Dunham concludes, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, “Obviously I voted for [Mitt] Romney. I hope everyone has a nice day.”

A rep for the New York State Board of Elections tells E! News that Dunham’s record could not be found in the state database. However, some New York residents who voted have not been not been placed in the database to date for various reasons — for example, if they were displaced by Hurricane Sandy and they cast their ballot outside their district.
