Mali Presidential Candidate Visits Idaho
Published at(AMMON, ID) — A presidential candidate for the West African nation of Mali was at Sand Creek Middle School in Ammon Thursday. Forty-two-year-old Yeah Samake is no stranger to the region, receiving a Master’s degree in public policy at BYU before returning to Mali. Samake was the front-runner in the presidential race last spring, though the election was delayed because of an al Qaeda uprising. Samake has plans to implement a government that empowers local leaders, which will undermine the influence of extremists. World leaders hope to have an election in Mali by July 31.
