Man Who Shot Burglar Makes Plea Deal

(LAYTON, UT) — A Layton , Utah man who was arrested after shooting at a man who burglarized his home has reached a plea deal with prosecutors. Clare Niederhauser agreed to a lessened charge of a class B misdemeanor for discharging his weapon within city limits. He will also have to pay $700 in fines and forfeit his handgun used in shooting. Police say the burglars were fleeing the scene at the time Niederhauser fired the shots, which they believe were unnecessary in stopping the suspects. Niederhauser has since apologized.
