In other words, Damon jokingly says he will refrain from going to the bathroom to raise awareness of the 2.5 billion people worldwide who are without clean water and sanitation.

Damon, who is the co-founder of Water.org, said all of this in a humorous fashion at a faux press conference, but he is very serious about the issue.

The organization released a three-minute video this week in which Damon declared to reporters, “In protest of this global tragedy, until this issue is resolved, until everybody has access to clean water and sanitation, I will not go to the bathroom.”

The Promised Land actor continued, “Does anybody have any idea what invention has saved more lives than any other in the history of humankind?  The toilet.”

Damon added, “More people have cell phones than toilets.”

The video is part of a viral campaign intended to draw attention to the global water shortage.  Damon said that for just $25 a day, one person can get clean water for life.
