(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) — Phil Mickelson led from beginning to end in Phoneix, and just missed out on making some history along the way.
Mickelson finished off his win at the Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale by firing a 4-under 67, to finish four strokes ahead of the pack for his first win of the year.
He finished with a 28-under 256 for the tournament, just two strokes shy of the PGA tour record which was set by Tommy Armour III in 2003.
“It’s an important one for me, because it’s been a while since I’ve won,” Mickelson said of the victory.
Mickelson had a chance to shoot a 59 in the first round, but missed a long putt on the final hole. He shot 65 and 64 in the second and third rounds before coasting to the win on Sunday.
