The 21-yaer-old Paajarvi wasn’t schedule to suit up, but got the nod after Lennart Petrell was injured during pre-game warm-ups when he took a puck off his helmet.

The Oilers used a team-record 56 shots on goal, 23 in the first period, 15 in the second and 18 in the third to hand the Avalanche their fourth defeat in the last five games. The previous team record was 55 shots against the Minnesota North Stars in 1986.
