Power Outage Delays Super Bowl
Published at(NEW ORLEANS) — While the Baltimore Ravens were playing lights out, the lights actually did go out.
With 13:22 remaining in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLVII between the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, a power outage occured that delayed play.
Police said the excessive amount of electricity being pumped into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome caused a surge.
About half of the ring of lights above the field went dark and it took 34 minutes to fully restore the power and resume play.
The Ravens led 28-6 when the outage occured, and Jacoby Jones had just taken back the second half kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown.
