(NEW YORK) — NBC’s Smash kicks off its second season Tuesday night with a two-hour episode, beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
The series will continue to follow the crew and stars involved in the fictional, Marilyn Monroe-themed musical Bombshell, which has just completed a successful run in Boston. The producer, composer and lyricist behind Bombshell are attempting to bring the production to Broadway.
Former American Idol finalist Katharine McPhee returns as Bombshell actress Karen, who has a new mentor, a Broadway star played by Jennifer Hudson in a multi-episode arc that begins Tuesday night.
Smash will be preceded by Betty White’s Second Annual 90th Birthday Special, featuring appearances by former President Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Sarah Silverman, Blake Shelton and other celebrities. White turned 91 last month.
