Sources: Saints Seek Restructured Deals For Vilma, Smith
Published at(NEW ORLEANS) — According to sources, the New Orleans Saints will ask linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith to restructure their current contracts.
Both Vilma and Smith were famously connected to the Saints’ bounty scandal, which paid out bonuses to defensive players for inflicting hard hits on their opponents that caused injuries.
Vilma is entering the final year of his deal and is owed $6 million this season, while due to make $10.15 million in 2013.
If neither Smith or Vilma are willing to renegotiate their current deals with the Saints, they could become cap casualties.
The Saints must be below the league salary cap by March 12.
