Clowney will be draft eligible come April 2014 and some columnists suggested this week that the sophomore might sit out the season to protect his draft stock.

“Jadeveon’s a football player,” Spurrier told ESPN on Thursday.  “Our rules you play three and then go pro.  That’s what he’s going to do we knew that from two years ago when he announced he was coming with us.”

NFL rules require a player to be three years removed from the time his high school class graduated to be eligible for the draft.

“Football players and being on a team is special, they can’t sit out and do nothing, that’s no fun,” Spurrier continued.  “By playing three years and give it all he’s got for our university, he’s always got a home to come back to.”

Clowney was an All-American this past season and had 13 1/2 sacks.
