Forecasters say there are actually two storms headed towards the area that will combine to create a monster nor’easter. It could be the biggest snowstorm in almost a decade, bringing with it more than two feet of snow.

Boston and coastal New England are expected to bear the brunt of the storm, with the heaviest snow coming down Friday evening.

The New York area could be buried under 10 to 14 inches of snow. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the region to take effect from 6 a.m. Friday to 1 p.m. EST Saturday.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly across the Northeast as well.  Bruce Sullivan of the National Weather Service says the real concern for Friday and Saturday is that strong winds will produce considerable blowing and drifting of snow.

“We’re anticipating the heaviest snow and strongest winds late Friday and Friday night, so I think the worst travel conditions will probably be during that time into Satruday morning,” he says.

Airlines are preparing for the worst. They’ve already started waiving re-booking fees for flights heading in and out of the storm zone.
