The ABC telecast of the awards show was seen by 40.3 million viewers, an increase of one million from last year’s ceremony.

It was the most-watched awards show of the past two months, topping the Golden Globes and Grammys.

Argo won the Oscars’ top prize, best picture.  Lincoln’s Daniel Day-Lewis and Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence received the prizes for best actor and best actress, respectively.

This year’s Oscars ceremony was hosted by Seth MacFarlane, whose off-color jokes earned mixed reviews.
