(MARANA, Ariz.) — Tiger Woods and Rory McIlory were ousted from the opening round of the WGC: Accenture Match Play Championship on Thursday.
Charles Howell III eliminated Woods, 2 and 1, with a birdie on the 16th hole followed by a par on 17. The 14-time major champion has won the event three times, but hasn’t advanced past the second round since winning his last title in 2008.
McIlroy, the tournament’s number-one seed, was bounced after Shane Lowry made a 4-foot par putt on the 18th hole.
