(KANSAS CITY, MO) — Jerrell White’s clutch free-throws in the final 30 seconds helped No. 13 La Salle stun (4) Kansas State 63-61 on Friday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Explorers (23-9) almost let an 18-point halftime lead slip away late, but coach John Giannini did everything he can from the sideline to make sure his team held on for the impressive upset.
“Every timeout, every time we came in, he was riding us on defense,” said La Salle guard Ramon Galloway, who scored 19 points. “We had a good margin, and they came back and actually took the lead. We had to stick together, dig down deep and get some stops.”
The Wildcats (27-8) were led by Jordan Henriquez and Shane Southwell, who scored 17 points each. Guard Rodney McGruder added 13 in the loss.
The Explorers will face No. 12 Ole Miss in the round of 32.
