Durand Scott was 6-10 from the field and scored 21 points for Miami.  Sophomore point guard Shane Larkin dished out nine assists and chipped in with 10 points in the victory.

“Our players and everyone that stepped onto the court played hard and well,” said Miami head coach Jim Larranaga.  “In the tournament we believe you have to play well to advance and we did that today.”

Miami was up 40-19 at the half and Larkin’s nine assists tied his career-high.

“My teammates did a great job of being in the right position, and that’s the chemistry that we have,” said Larkin.

The loss for the Tigers marked the final game for head coach Bob Thomason, who announced he’d be retiring once the tournament ended.

“Great team, great pieces. They played tremendous,” said Thomason. “I’ll be rooting for them the rest of the time, so maybe they can win a national championship. If I had to go out in coaching, you want to go out to a great team, but also to a great coach and a class coach, and Jim is that.”

Miami will take on Illinois on Sunday.
