(WASHINGTON) — Jamil Wilson scored 16 points as No. 3 Marquette dropped second-seeded Miami 71-61 to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
Vander Blue and Davante Gardner added 14 apiece for Marquette (26-8), who advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003.
“It’s amazing, man,” Blue said after the game. “Everybody said this team wasn’t any good.”
Marquette built a double-digit lead in the first half and never looked back, shooting 54 percent from the field for the game.
Shane Larkin led Miami (29-7) with 14 points. The Hurricanes played without center Reggie Johnson.
The Golden Eagles will face the winner of the Syracuse/Indiana game in the East Regional final.
