Carl Hall had 16 points to lead ninth-seeded Wichita State past 13-seed La Salle, 72-58 at the Staples Center to advance to the Elite 8 for the first time in 32 years.

The Shockers (29-8) followed up their upset of No. 1 Gonzaga with an easy win over the upstart Explorers. They led by 16 at halftime and never let up.

“It’s like I’m in a dream still with this whole Elite Eight situation,” Hall said. “I still can’t believe it, but anything is possible when you play defense and you’re peaking at the right time.”

Malcom Armstead scrored 18 points and Ron Baker continued his strong shooting with two three pointers.

La Salle (24-10) got 16 points from Jerrell Wright, but only shot 35 percent from the floor.
