Thirty-six years later, at age 56, can you picture her returning in Star Wars: Episode VII?

Palm Beach Illustrated put the question to her, got a one-word answer — and now the entertainment world is abuzz with headlines like “Carrie Fisher to Return as Princess Leia.”

Here’s what was really asked:

Q: “Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?”

A: “Yes.”

Q: “What do you think Princess Leia is like today?”

A: “Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

A rep for Fisher said nothing has been confirmed.  LucasFilm, which made the original Star Wars films, said, “At this time we are not ready to make any announcements about casting because, as Yoda said, ‘Always in motion is the future.’”

The Walt Disney Company (the parent company of ABC News) now owns LucasFilm, and Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, reaffirmed Wednesday at the annual shareholders meeting in Phoenix that the company is developing “some standalone movies” in addition to Star Wars episodes seven, eight and nine that will feature characters from the original series. Iger didn’t say which characters might be featured in the new films.
