(NEW YORK) — The San Diego Chargers released linebacker Takeo Spikes on Thursday.
Following his release, Spikes went to Twitter to thank the Chargers organization for his last three seasons in San Diego.
“Thank you to the @chargers, Spanos family & fans for the opportunity to represent the organization. I look forward to this upcoming season,” Spikes tweeted.
The Pro Bowl linebacker would still like to play in 2013 and is entering his 16th season in the league.
“Takeo is a true professional and a class act,” general manager Tom Telesco said in a statement. “We’re grateful for his many contributions to the Chargers organization, both on and off the field, and wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
During his 15 NFL seasons, Spikes has never played on a playoff team. The veteran had 78 tackles in 2012.
