While an MRI showed no structural damage, the team feels it would be better to let Grienke rest and recover from his elbow issue. He received an injection of platelet-rich plasma and anti-inflammatory medication, according to team officials. After he rests, Greinke will resume his throwing program.

During the offseason, the Dodgers broke the bank on Greinke, signing him to a six-year contract worth $147 million. He was one of the more sought after free agents during the winter.

“I’ve seen (Dodgers president) Stan Kasten here and it sounds like really positive,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “He had the MRI and there was nothing on it. You had to feel like there was tendonitis or something going on. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it wasn’t anything major.”

In 2012, Greinke went 15-5 with a 3.48 ERA with the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Angels.
