(LAYTON, UT)  —  A 13-year-old golden retriever from Layton, Utah is being credited for saving the life of his owner before perishing in a house fire. Ron Barningham says his dog, Jake, woke up his wife from a nap Wednesday afternoon to alert her that the house was filling with smoke. The woman escaped through a second-floor window and called for the dog to jump, but he never came out. Authorities say the home was a complete loss. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
