(TAMPA, Fla.) — The Tampa Bay Lightning fired head coach Guy Boucher on Sunday.
The Lightning are currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-17-1 with 27 points. They are five points behind the 8th and final playoff spot.
“Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years and we appreciate all the work he has done,” said Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman in a statement. “But ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest of our franchise.”
In two plus seasons at the helm in Tampa Bay, Boucher was 97-78-20. He led the Lightning to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010-11, where they lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins in seven games.
Assistants Dan Lacroix and Martin Raymond will coach the team for Sunday night’s game at Winnipeg.
