Johan Santana Has Probable Re-Tear In Shoulder

Eliot J. Schechter/MLB Photos (NEW YORK) — New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana has suffered a probable re-tear of the anterior capsule of his throwing shoulder, team general manager Sandy Alderson said Thursday.
Santana already underwent surgery on the shoulder back in 2010, and needed 19 months to throw another major league pitch.
Alderson added that a repeat surgery is a “strong possibility,” and that Santana could miss the entire 2013 season.
The 34-year-old Santana will take the weekend to think things over before committing to have surgery. In 2012 he went 6-9 with a 4.85 ERA. Santana also made Mets history last season, tossing the franchise’s first-ever no-hitter back on June 1.
The Mets open up their regular-season at home on Monday April 1, against the San Diego Padres.
