Kenseth narrowly beat out Kasey Kahne to win the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.

It was Kenseth’s 25th career victory, but first as a member of the Joe Gibbs Racing team.  He joined JGR this season after leaving Roush Fenway Racing in the offseason.

Kenseth was able to take the lead from Kahne after the final restart.  Holding him off during the final laps was the tough part.

“I was real nervous all day,” Kenseth said. “(Kahne) had the best car. I told Jason Ratcliff with about 12 to go that I was sorry we were going to lose. We were just too tight.  We didn’t have the fastest car there, but we had it where we needed it to be.”

He became just the third NASCAR driver to win a race on his birthday.
