Netflix posted on its blog Wednesday that, starting this week, its users in the U.S. will be able to share movie ratings and rental information on Facebook by connecting the two accounts. Netflix users will see two new rows on the company’s homepage and app, one showing “Friends’ Favorites” — movies and TV shows given high ratings by Facebook friends — and the other displaying movies and shows “Watched by Your Friends.”

Worried about privacy? Netflix says customers will be in total control of what gets shared. By clicking “Don’t Share This” in the player, users can control which titles are shared with your Facebook friends.

Netflix plans to gradually roll out the integration with Facebook to U.S. members over the coming days, and expects all U.S. members to have access by the end of the week.

According to Mashable, Netflix has long tried to integrate Netflix activity with Facebook. However, the Video Protection Privacy Act (VPPA), which prohibits someone’s video rental history from being shared without their express approval or a police warrant, blocked their attempts. It was in December, when Congress passed a bill updating the VPPA, that Netflix and Facebook could finally be allowed to integrate.
