(LAS VEGAS) — The No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs captured the West Coast Conference crown, but they have bigger plans.
Kelly Olynyk had 21 points and 12 rebounds to help Gonzaga top St. Mary’s, 65-51 in the WCC Championship game at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Monday to clinch a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Now, Gonzaga (31-2) will wait and see if they receive a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance.
“You’ve got to enjoy you successes come, but you have to be short-minded in the sense that it’s not the end of the year for us and we still want to come out and make some noise in the tournament,” Olynyk said.
Stephen Holt scored 19 points to lead St. Mary’s (27-6), which dropped to 0-3 against the Bulldogs this year.
“I thought we played well offensively, but we didn’t shoot it (well), which is a big part of offense,” Saint Mary’s coach Randy Bennett said.
