Phone Scam Targeting Rocky Mountain Power Customers

(SALT LAKE CITY, UT)  —  Rocky Mountain Power officials are warning their customers about a new phone scam targeting the area. The scammers claim to represent the utility company and tell customers that their bills are past due. Customers are demanded to pay over the phone or face disconnection. They’re also told to either call a special number or to purchase a pre-paid card from a store and to call back with the information. Company officials say they’d never ask for that kind of information over the phone, since they already have account information stored in their system.
