Sale Agrees to New Contract with White Sox

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(GLENDALE, Ariz.) -- Starting pitcher Chris Sale and the Chicago White Sox agreed to a five-year contract on Thursday, worth $32.5 million.

Under the terms of the new deal, Sale will receive $850,000 this season, $3.5 million in 2014, $6.0 million in 2015, $9.15 million in 2016 and $12 million in 2017. The Sox hold club options for the 2018 season at $12.5 million and for 2019 at 13.5 million. If Chicago decides to decline either option, Sale will be paid a one million dollar buyout.

In his first full season as a starter last year, the left hander went 17-8 with a 3.05 ERA. He also struck out 192 batters in 192 innings of work.

Chicago selected Sale with the 13th overall pick in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
