Lowe proposed to Catherine Giudici on the season finale of The Bachelor Monday night. Next week, he’ll begin competing on Dancing with the Stars. His involvement in the dance competition was announced Tuesday.

Lowe says he’s participating in Dancing with the Stars with the blessing of his new fiancée. He tells ABC News Radio, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s not going to last forever, and it was too good to pass up. I can’t wait to embrace this challenge, and I couldn’t do it if she wasn’t in my corner, so it’s so nice to have her support.”

One advantage to competing on the show, from his perspective, is that it affords him the opportunity to have pro dancers teach him and Giudici how to have the “perfect first dance” for their wedding, which will be televised as an ABC special this summer.

Giudici herself is looking forward to that first dance because, she says, “It’s really important…for our wedding to be traditional.”

In the meantime, Lowe expects to be in the ballroom for weeks to come. Lowe, who’s partnered with Peta Murgatroyd, says, “I’m going to win this thing. I’m going to win it. I’m so competitive, even if I was by far the worst dancer I’m still going to say I’m going to win it because I just refuse to say I’m going to come in second place.”

Dancing with the Stars kicks off its new season this Monday night on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
