Stocks Finished the Day Mixed

Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The Dow on Tuesday marked its first eight-day winning streak in two years, though not by much. After wavering between small losses and gains for most of the session, the blue chips index eked out a small gain, closing up 3 points at 14,450.06.
The Nasdaq Composite gave up 10.55 points to close at 3,242.32. The S&P 500 closed down 3.74 points at 1,552.48.
Meanwhile, there’s encouraging news for job seekers. The Labor Department says U.S. employers advertised more job openings in January, an indication that hiring will remain healthy in the months to come.
