On Monday, the Titans released backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, so the team had been in the market for a quarterback. Fitzpatrick is expected to backup starter Jake Locker.

The former Harvard quarterback spent four seasons in Buffalo, but fell short of expectations. In 2011, Fitzpatrick was having a career season when he signed a six-year deal worth $59 million. Once he received the extension, he struggled to keep performing at a high level, as well as the rest of the team.

His contract and price tag were the main factors that determined his release. In four seasons with the Bills, Fitzpatrick went 20-33 as a starter. He also threw 80 touchdowns and 64 interceptions.

Locker was the eighth overall pick in the 2011 draft, and the team is hoping that 2013 is the season that Locker takes a firm hold on the starting job.
