Union Membership Declining in Idaho
(BOISE, ID) – A federal report shows that less than five percent of Idaho’s workforce belongs to a trade union. Union membership is down three-tenths of a percent from 2011, to around 29,000 workers. That’s compared to the national average of 11.3 percent. Critics say Idaho is ripe for organized labor, given that it has the highest percentage of minimum wage workers in the country. Idaho is 44th in the nation in terms of the state’s proportion of unionized workers to non-union workers.
