Wolf Control Bill Fails in House

(BOISE, ID) — A bill that would’ve shifted money from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game to reimburse ranchers who lose animals to wolves has failed to pass a House vote. The measure would’ve hiked resident wolf tags by more than $5. The extra money would’ve gone to a “wolf depredation account,” half of which would’ve gone to wolf control, the other half to livestock owners. Opponents, including former Fish and Game commissioner Marc Gibbs, say the bill would’ve set a poor precedent by using tag revenues to reimburse ranchers.
