Yankees Pitcher Andy Pettitte Feeling Young Again

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — New York Yankees starting pitcher Andy Pettitte is proving that age is just as number as he prepares for his 18th season in Major League Baseball.
The 40-year-old Pettitte returned to the team last season after retiring following the 2010 season. He made 12 starts and went 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA. Based of his performance last year, Pettitte doesn’t think he’ll be retiring again in the near future.
“I’m loving being back,” Pettitte said. “I’m excited about the season and this organization and trying to help us win another championship. If I stay healthy, I feel like I can pitch for a long time. It doesn’t mean I want to, but I feel like I could.”
If Pettitte can stay healthy, he’d be a huge boost to a Yankees team already dealing with injuries. He will open the season as the team’s number 3 starter behind C.C. Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda.
Not only has Pettitte been a valuable member of the Yankees in the regular season, it is the postseason where he has come up the biggest for the team. He has made 44 postseason starts in his career, and has gone 19-11 in those starts.
